Police investigate brazen theft in Werribee

Detectives from Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit are investigating following a $58,000 theft of jewellery in Werribee earlier this month.

Investigators have been told a man entered the jewellery store at a shopping centre on Heaths Road about 12.40pm on Monday, 14 December.

The man wandered around the store for about 15 minutes before approaching a staff member for assistance.

He asked to view a gold chain which the staff member handed to the man.

As he returned the chain to the staff member and she opened the locked drawer, the man reached over the counter and grabbed a tray of gold chains and ran from the store.

He fled via the Heaths Road exit and rode off on a silver bike.

Detectives have today released CCTV of the man in the hope that someone recognises him and contacts police.

He is described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 190cm tall with a medium build.

At the time of the offence he was wearing grey camouflage shorts, a dark coloured t-shirt with a pattern on the front, runners, a baseball cap and was carrying a satchel or similar across his body.
