Data update for Indooroopilly cluster

Queensland has recorded eight new cases of COVID-19 today with seven linked to the 'Indooroopilly cluster' and one overseas acquired case detected in hotel quarantine.

The seven new cases linked to the cluster were all detected in home quarantine which means they are not a risk to the community.

There are now 137 cases related to the cluster, including 83 people aged 19 or under.

Five schools in south east Queensland are associated with this outbreak. 60 students and 5 teachers have been infected.

There are more than 19,000 contacts associated with the cluster, including more than 16,900 close contacts.

Across Queensland, there are 158 active cases of COVID-19 and 15,000 people in home quarantine.

Indooroopilly cluster quarantine update

More than 2300 people linked to the Indooroopilly cluster are expected to come out of home quarantine today.

Queensland's Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young praised those in quarantine and added the vital part they have played in preventing the spread of the Delta variant to the broader community.

"Families are gradually coming out of quarantine and that's excellent news. I want to thank you for the work you've done. You've actually saved lives protecting your family and the lives of so many in our community," Dr Young said.

"Quarantining isn't easy but it works; it saves lives. I can't say how many lives - but there is no doubt in my mind you have saved lives by what you've done."

A close contact must complete 14 days quarantine from the time of potential exposure. Once the 14 days is up, and they have received a negative test result from their day 12 test and remain well, they are free to leave quarantine.
