Rangeway Assault / Suspicious Approach

Geraldton Detectives are seeking information regarding a concerning incident in Rangeway between 11:00pm last night, Friday 1 January 2021, and 1:30am today, Saturday 2 January 2021.
A 13-year-old girl was walking in the grassed area between Banksia Street, St John's Catholic Church and Utakarra Road when she was approached by an unknown male person.
The male person assaulted her and grabbed her by her shoulders. The victim fought against the male and escaped before contacting police.
It is believed the incident may have been a sexually motivated incident, however fortunately the victim was able to break free and was not sexually assaulted.
The offender is described as a dark skinned male, 20-30 years of age, of average build and average height, with dark or black hair with a side fade. He was wearing a black hooded jacket with an Adidas logo on upper breast of jacket (unknown side), faded black jeans and checked black and white 'Van' shoes.
