RMIT, Ho Chi Minh City Boost Sustainable Urban Ties

RMIT has welcomed a senior delegation from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, reaffirming the University's longstanding commitment to Vietnam, and signalling further opportunities for collaboration in sustainable urban development.

RMIT Vice-President International Layton Pike acknowledged the strong ties between RMIT and Ho Chi Minh City, noting the city's central role in the university's engagement with Vietnam.

"RMIT is Vietnam's pre-eminent university, with our largest campus in Saigon South. We are deepening our partnership with Vietnam to support its development and skills priorities, including through ambitious plans for future investment," he said.

The discussion explored potential areas for collaboration, including sustainable urban planning, capability development, collaborative research, and knowledge exchange.

Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vice Chairman Hoang Nguyen Dinh shared the city's vision for sustainable development to 2030 and beyond, including the development of a master plan. He explained the opportunities and challenges the city faces, its central role in Vietnam's economy, and its rapidly growing urban population.

The visiting delegation welcomed the opportunity to draw on the knowledge of RMIT experts, including Professor Jago Dodson, and in closer engagement with RMIT on construction, engineering and planning.

Key initiatives discussed included the Smart and Sustainable Cities Hub, which leverages RMIT expertise to support collaborative research, training and engagement in Vietnam and across the wider Asia-Pacific.

RMIT is the pre-eminent foreign university in Vietnam, with campuses in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, and an English Language Training Centre in Da Nang. RMIT Vietnam has more than 12,000 students, 1,300 staff, and nearly 25,500 alumni who are driving transformation in Vietnam and across the region in some of the world's most sophisticated organisations and digital communities.

During its 26 years of operation in-country, RMIT Vietnam has supported over 1,900 scholarships valued at more than 613 billion VND and invested deeply in local research capability.
