Sunlight will soon power four community centres in the Camden area after Council secured $20,000 in funding to install solar panels on the buildings.
Funded under the Federal Government's Stronger Communities Program, solar photovoltaic systems will be installed at Julia Reserve, Catherine Park, Harrington Park and Gregory Hills community centres.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the solar panel installation is a win for sustainability in Camden.
"Council is always looking to do the right thing by our residents - those that currently call the Camden area home and those that will call Camden home in the future," Cr Fedeli said.
"That's why doing our best in the areas of sustainability and conservation is so important.
"Once installed, the solar panels will help reduce electricity costs and minimise the environmental impact of these facilities.
"I'd like to thank the Federal Government for their support of the Camden area and look forward to seeing the panels installed.
"This initiative is even more exciting, coupled with Council achieving silver status in the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment's Sustainability Advantage program. It recognises environmental improvements made by organisations and rewards improvements made in the space. It's been a good week for sustainability!"
Council will match the funding for the project, which will be completed by the end of this year.
