Southwests Weather: Daniel Swains Forecast Session

UCLA

California weather is yo-yo-ing around a bit this spring. Is it time for rain and snow or heat waves and wildfires in the Southwest? Join UCLA and UC ANR climate scientist Daniel Swain for a live Q&A today exploring California's weather and wildfire outlook, heat and snowpack in the greater Southwest, and a brief update providing context to federal government action. Swain's office hours occur today: Tuesday, April 29, 1 p.m. PT/4 p.m. ET. (Link below).

  • Shifting baseline syndrome: "There's nothing inherently wrong with using a 30-year moving average window that shifts each decade; we've got to choose something. But it does leave us susceptible to what others have termed 'Shifting Baseline Syndrome' – essentially, the fact that conditions that would have been exceptional or even record-breaking just decades ago are increasingly perceived as 'ordinary'
