Spring clean and detox your home in November

Mitchell Shire Council residents are being urged to do a spring clean and detox their home by taking advantage of a free disposal event this month.

The 'Detox your Home' event is a safe, free and easy-to-use service to dispose of common household chemicals without harming your health or the environment.

Council, in partnership with Sustainability Victoria, is hosting the household chemical collection program in Wallan on Saturday 28 November from 9 am to 12noon. This is a drive-through and contactless event and is supported by a COVIDSafe plan.

Residents are encouraged to take the opportunity to get rid of unwanted - and potentially dangerous - items like pesticides, detergents and weed killers. The service is for household chemicals only, and no paint, fluorescent lights or batteries are accepted.

The maximum acceptable weight or size for any single container is 20 kilograms or 20 litres. Decanting isn't permitted, so bring chemicals in disposable, clearly labelled containers. If you don't know what's inside, label the item as 'unknown'.

While it is free to drop off your household chemicals, residents will need to register online if they plan to attend.
