Taskforce Scelus targeting drugs, firearms

Tasmania Police is continuing to target illicit drugs and firearms-related crime through Taskforce Scelus.

The Western District operation has seen at least 17 people charged in its first week, as well as drugs, cash and firearms seized.

Detective Inspector Michelle Elmer said the taskforce would largely target illicit drugs and firearms, however members were focused on reducing crime more broadly.

"Tasmania is a very safe place to live, however there is small minority of people who continue to do the wrong thing, and we will continue to target anyone involved in criminal activity in our state," Detective Inspector Elmer said.

"Through this taskforce we have already recovered firearms, and seized quantities of drugs, and cash. The drugs seized are highly addictive, and have no place in our community. If you are seeking to profit by selling harmful drugs to Tasmanians we will target you and your activities.

"Our goal with this taskforce is to assist in reducing crime, and our members have also been targeting dangerous driving and the Fatal Five - which are the five main contributors to serious and fatal crashes."
