Townsville City Council is encouraging its employees and the wider community to stand up, speak out and take action against gender-based violence this White Ribbon Day.
Council employees have donned white for the day as the organisation continues its work towards becoming a White Ribbon Accredited workplace.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said Council was dedicated to supporting employees and community members who have experienced gender-based violence.
"Gender-based violence is a prevalent issue across Australia and certainly here in Townsville. Council is standing up, speaking out and condemning all forms of domestic and family violence in our community," Cr Hill said.
"Domestic and family violence can affect anyone in our community regardless of age, gender, culture or income.
"Council is committed to providing and promoting a workplace that encourages employees affected by gender-based violence to seek support.
"It's important that we speak out against gender-based violence and family violence in our city and work towards creating a community where all individuals are free from violence."
White Ribbon delivers programs in schools, workplaces, and other areas of the community along with initiatives to engage men, advocacy, community support and training.
