Tracking device thwarts vehicle thieves

A victim has assisted police in tracking his stolen car from Dry Creek to Kersbrook last night.

Just after 9pm Friday 23 June police were contacted by a victim after reports his Toyota ute had been stolen from his Cavan Road business.

The victim stated that he was now tracking the ute on an App and that it was in Chain of Ponds heading toward Kersbrook. The victim was able to provide live updates to police about the position and even speed of his car.

Patrols and PolAir attended the area with PolAir picking up the vehicle travelling along Mount Gawler Road, before it stopped on the corner of Kersbrook Road.

The car continued along Kersbrook Road before heading west on Black Top Road and through the township of Kersbrook Road. Patrols got into position and were able to deploy road spikes at the intersections with Kylie Crescent, Hillbank.

The ute was successfully spiked and as it neared the intersection of Main North Road where other police were stationary, it allegedly drove at a police car and a collision occurred with a police vehicle. Thankfully there were no injuries.

Here the male driver and female passenger were placed under arrested without incident. The 30-year-old man and 35-year-old woman, both from Edwardstown have been charged with illegal use of motor vehicle and the man further charged with drive dangerously to escape police pursuit.

They were both bailed to appear at the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 31 July.

The car was towed from the scene.
