Training our next crop of tourism and hospitality professionals

Nic Street, Minister for Hospitality and Events

A huge reason visitors come to Tasmania is for our world-class hospitality and local quality produce.

They stay and they return because of this – but also for the people who bring it to life.

The people that we have working in our tourism and hospitality industry are the face of our state, and as a government we know that the industry needs more of them.

It is my pleasure to announce we are continuing our support for Visitor Experience Training (VXT), an industry-led training entity supported by the Tasmanian Hospitality Association and the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania.

This support includes $650,000 in base funding through to December 2023, with a further $350,000 being made available for ongoing training activity.

VXT's training is designed to be short and sharp, giving students a taste of what further education and a career in the industry could look like, as well as the job-ready skills needed to secure employment in an industry who needs them right now.

Since starting 15 months ago, VXT have delivered 55 short courses for over 400 Tasmanians in Devonport, Burnie, Sorell, King Island, Queenstown, New Norfolk, Smithton, Port Arthur and St Helens, as well as here in Hobart.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government will continue to back our tourism and hospitality sectors, as we head into another busy summer season.
