UAB Joins 6th Season of Universo Sostenible

The new season of the popular science series "Universo sostenible", coproduced by Crue Universitats, will be broadcast on 3 May on TVE's Channel 2 (La 2), as part of the programme La aventura del saber. Three UAB researchers will be taking part in this 6th season, which consists of nine episodes and which will be made available on the participating universities' platforms.

As in previous editions, in this season different people from the university scientific community explain in a simple way the keys to advances in research projects related to technological progress that will have a major impact in the near future.

The sixth season includes the participation of three UAB researchers: Michael J. Edel, researcher from the Department of Morphological Sciences, who takes part in a chapter dedicated to stem cells; Daniel Sol, researcher from the Department of Animal Biology, Plant Biology and Ecology and CREAF, who participates in a chapter dedicated to the intelligence of birds, and Gonzalo Seco, lecturer in the Department of Telecommunications and Systems Engineering, who participates in a chapter on 5G technologies.

Other topics in this new season include climate change, neurodegenerative diseases, the effects of deforestation on biodiversity, the impact of sugar on health, volcanic eruptions, vegetation on water quality and oceanic posidonia.

The programme La aventura del saber seeks to deepen the transmission to citizens of a rigorous knowledge of reality so that they can be more critical and responsible of their decisions. Moreover, this transmedia project will also allow to discover the reaction of citizens to the scientific projects presented.

Participating universities

The "Universo sostenible" project is the result of a co-production of the audiovisual services and scientific communication units of 29 universities belonging to Crue Universidades Españolas: Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universitat de Barcelona, Universidad de Cantabria, Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia, Universidad de Córdoba, Universidad a Distancia de Madrid, Universidad de Extremadura, Universidad de Granada, Universitat de les Illes Balears, Universidad de la Laguna, Universidad de León, Universidad de Málaga, Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche, Universidad de Murcia, Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, Universidad Nebrija, Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Universitat Politècnica de Valencia, Universidad de Salamanca, Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, Universidad de Sevilla, Universitat de Valencia, Universidad de Valladolid and Universidade de Vigo.

The initiative is coordinated by the Audiovisual Workshop of the University of Valencia, which has developed the design of the audiovisual format and carried out the executive production.
