The Microscopy Service of the UAB forms part of the European NFFA-Europe Pilot project (NEP), which facilitates the use of shared research infrastructures in nanoscience and nanotechnology. The UAB has made available to the European scientific community 5 microscopy techniques and pieces of equipment. They are a Cryo-TEM (Cryo-Transmission Electron Microscopy) microscope, a LSCM (Laser Scanning Confocal Microscopy) microscope, a SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) microscope, a TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy) microscope and a profilometer.

This initiative also offers research staff access to a whole set of scientific and technical services from all over Europe to facilitate the use of installations for carrying out characterisations that cannot be done on the UAB campus.

This project will therefore provide users with free access to a broad portfolio of services and will support scientific and technological excellence while taking on complex nanoscientific challenges. By expanding and consolidating an Interoperable Distributed Research Infrastructure for Nanoscience, the project will boost research into materials and functional systems at the nanoscale and the microscale.
