Are we ready for the digital revolution we are immersed in? Are we really aware of what we buy and use? Do we talk enough about the death? On September 23, researchers of the University of Barcelona will answer these and other questions, within the framework of the Science Cafés organized by La UB Divulga, on the occasion of the celebration of the European Researchers’ Night. Also, the Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the UB (ICCUB) joins this initiative with a workshop on quarks and a roundtable on blackholes and gravitational waves.
Science cafés in the Ferran Soldevila garden of the Historical Building
In order to offer a multidisciplinary view to daily issues which affect us all, during the whole day, experts on different knowledge fields will take part in the six science cafés organized by the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+i) on the occasion of the European Researchers’ Night. On September 23, there will be two morning sessions aimed at high school students, and four sessions in the afternoon aimed at the general audience. There is limited room capacity and previous registration is required.
The activity starts at 10:30 a.m. with two simultaneous sessions in the Ferran Soldevila garden: “El cicle vital: naixement i mort”, with participation from the faculties of Mathematics and Computer Science, Medicine and Health Sciences, and Psychology; and the café “Viurem a Mart?”, to debate with the experts from the faculties of Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and Computer Science on whether we will be able to live in the red planet some day.
During the afternoon, there will be more talks in the garden. At 5:00 p.m., the researchers from the faculties of Law, Philosophy, Mathematics and Computer Science and Medicine and Health Sciences will debate on digital revolution in the café “La revolució digital, estem tots preparats?”. At the same time, the café “Residus i microplàstics” will feature experts from the faculties of Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and Computer Science.
At 7:00 p.m., there will be the café “Ciutats de futur: intel·ligents i dinàmiques”, with researchers from the faculties of Geography and History, Mathematics and Computer Science and Economics and Business. At the same time, there will be the café “Etiquetatge: sabem què comprem?”, with participation of researchers from several faculties.
This activity counts on the support of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology – Ministry of Science and Innovation.
