The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced today that three Colombian foreign nationals were sentenced to jail time for possession and use of fraudulent Mexican passports to enter Canada.
On September 1, 2019, CBSA officers at Halifax Stanfield International Airport (HSIA) intercepted Marin Suarez who attempted to enter Canada on a fraudulent Mexican passport. In late September 2019, Uran Garcia and Cardona Orozco were also intercepted at HSIA with fraudulent Mexican passports.
CBSA Criminal Investigations laid charges against the three individuals for offences related to the use of fraudulent Mexican passports to obtain an Electronic Travel Authority (eTA) to enter Canada.
In early January, in Dartmouth Provincial Court, Suarez was sentenced to 18 months in jail; and Garcia and Orozco were sentenced to 24 months in jail for using fraudulent Mexican passports to seek entry to Canada.
