Wiley's Net-Zero Goal Confirmed by SBTi

The global leader in research, publishing and knowledge solutions commits to becoming carbon net-zero by 2040

HOBOKEN, N.J. - The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has validated the climate target set by Wiley (NYSE: WLY) to reach net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040. Wiley's commitment to these science-based targets signifies the company's dedication to act on the urgent need to address climate change.

SBTi is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. It is a collaboration between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The initiative is the global gold standard for corporate environmental action for setting carbon reduction targets.

"Committing to science-based targets presents a powerful opportunity for Wiley to make a significant and positive impact on the planet for generations of researchers and learners to come," said Shari Hofer, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Wiley. "We're thrilled to have the SBTi validate our commitment, and we are resolute in achieving net-zero emissions by 2040 across our global operations."

Wiley aims to reduce its absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 50% by FY2030 from a FY2020 base year. The company also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services and business travel 50% within the same timeframe. These goals align with the latest climate science to meet the objectives of the Paris Agreement international treaty on climate change, limit global warming to below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, and pursue efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C.

By aligning with SBTi, Wiley is demonstrating a concrete commitment to transparency, accountability and leadership in sustainability, becoming part of the collective effort to mitigate the worst impacts of climate change through tangible action.
