Wyndham City Goes Full Speed Ahead On Road Reconstructions

A smoother drive awaits residents living along 13 Wyndham streets as Council's $11.75 million local roads program kicks into gear.

Construction has commenced on a full road reconstruction of King Street in Werribee that will see the entire length of the street built to make the road smoother and also includes new footpaths, guttering, drainage and street lighting to bring this road up to Council's urban street standards.

Works are also underway on the reconstruction of 12 more local roads in Wyndham Vale, Hoppers Crossing and Tarneit, which are all on track for completion later this year.

Council's Director of City Operations, Stephen Thorpe, said these upgrades were part of Wyndham City's $11.75 million local roads program for 2020/21.

"Improving local roads is an ongoing priority for Council and it is essential that our roads are regularly assessed and maintained to improve traffic flow and keep Wyndham moving safely," Mr Thorpe said.

"These works make our suburban streets smoother, safer and more enjoyable for everyday use."

"With fewer vehicles on the road due to COVID-19 restrictions, we have a unique opportunity to fast-track these works, keep the economy moving and keep people in jobs."

"Wyndham City is monitoring and complying with the State Government's COVID-19 best practice procedures for construction sites, with all contractors required to adhere to restrictions and practice physical distancing when undertaking their work."

This suite of works is in addition to Council's larger-scale road projects, with Wyndham City investing $1 million this financial year to begin early service relocation works for the duplication of Tarneit Road between Sayers and Leakes roads.

Wyndham City is responsible for upgrading and maintaining neighbourhood roads, while the State Government is responsible for delivering major roads, including highways.
