Yudai Yamazaki Takes Top Honors at IEICE Mirai 60 Contest

Dr. Yudai Yamazaki, specially appointed assistant professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, School of Engineering has received the "Mirai 60 Award" - the top prize - at the inaugural Mirai 60 Award Challenge Contest hosted by the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE).

This award was newly established to recognize and support innovative, future-oriented research by young researchers and engineers under 36 years old. Eight finalists who passed the document screening presented their proposals at IEICE's general conference held at Kyushu Sangyo University in March 2026. Yamazaki was selected as the recipient of the Mirai 60 Award. Yamazaki proposed a low-invasive Brain-Machine Interface (BMI) utilizing terahertz waves, which received high praise from the judges, including jury chair, Professor Hiroshi Amano, a Nobel Prize laureate in Physics. The award ceremony was held on May 20 at Kudan Kaikan Terrace in Tokyo.
