This year's categories include coastal champion, coastal planning, coastal management and adaption, education and engagement, coast design, and science and research.

The McGowan Labor Government remains committed to protect WA's unique coastlines, following a further $18.5 million funding commitment in the 2021-22 State Budget to address key coastal erosion hotspots.

Since 2003, many individuals, community groups, local government, State Government and non-government organisations have been recognised for their outstanding efforts and achievements to protect WA's coastline.

Applicants may self-nominate or nominate any eligible community group, organisation or individual.

Nominations close on Wednesday July 6, 2022, with winners announced in September 2022, as part of the 2022 WA State Natural Resource Management and Coastal Conference. To nominate, go to https://www.wa.gov.au/organisation/department-of-planning-lands-and-heritage/coastal-awards-excellence

As stated by Planning Minister Rita Saffioti:

"Our Government is committed to protecting our coastlines and these awards highlight and raise greater awareness around the significance of our coastline, and the people and organisations that are committed to protecting and caring for it.

"Nominations are encouraged from individuals, community groups, businesses, schools, local councils and State Government agencies, including anyone who is demonstrating success in the award categories.

"Maintaining our vast WA coastline is a huge task. These awards allow us to express our thanks for the tireless work that volunteers and groups do in protecting our incredible coastline for future generations."
