AI Shaping Future of Material Science

University of Amsterdam

"AI is an indispensable tool to achieve the material transition needed for a sustainable society", says Bernd Ensing, associate professor of Computational Chemistry at the Faculty of Science. He leads the newly established research priority area known by its acronym AI4SMM. Written in full, it is quite a mouthful: Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Molecules and Materials. The first AI4SMM research projects focus on materials such as salts for energy storage, sustainable steel, safe additives for plastics and plant proteins for novel foods.
