Alicia Koplowitz Foundation Honors Autonomous University's Human Lab

The Human Lab research group of the Institut de Neurociències (INc-UAB) has received funding from the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation's 2023 research call. The grant will go towards the current study being conducted by researchers of individual differences in response to stress and the evaluation of biomarkers and parameters of adversity in children and adolescents.

The Human Lab research group is made up of members of the Department of Psychobiology and Methodology of Health Sciences and the Department of Psychiatry and Legal Medicine. Coordinated by Beatriz Molinuevo and Roser Nadal, other members of the group are Albert Bonillo, Silvia Fuentes, Eva Penelo and Anastasiya Ivanova. The group also includes PhD students Bernat Soley, David Quevedo, Sebastián Fernández and Ximena Mogollón.

The study for which the group received acknowledgement focuses on individual differences in the response to stress and evaluates different biomarkers and parameters of early adversity, with the ultimate goal of describing the risk and protective factors to develop disruptive and prosocial behavior trajectories. The final objective of the study is for the findings to contribute to improving the social and emotional well-being of children aged 6 to 12. The research also includes the collaboration of Albert Quintana, INc researcher from the Department of Cell Biology, Physiology and Immunology.

This same INc-UAB research group had previously received funding from the Spanish Ministry for Science and Innovation and from the La Marató de TV3 Foundation.

The Alicia Koplowitz Foundation held an event on 16 October to award this year's selected projects, each of which received a total of 50,000 euros in funding. The foundation has been committed to Child and Youth Mental Health since 2005.
