For the eighth year, Darwin brought together medical students and prevocational doctors to explore careers in the NT's healthcare system with the NT Medical Career Expo 2026 drawing 27 organisations to Royal Darwin Hospital on Wednesday 10 June, including 14 of 15 national medical specialty colleges.
Hosted by Flinders University's NT Regional Training Hub, the expo featured professional medical colleges such as the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists.
"With 14 of 15 national specialty colleges collaborating with the NT Regional Training Hub, there is clear momentum to increase meaningful training opportunities in the Northern Territory," says Dr Penny Stewart, Medical Director of Regional Training Hub NT at Flinders University.

"For students and prevocational doctors weighing up their options, being able to speak directly with specialists, local employers and colleges about training and support in the NT is invaluable," adds Dr Stewart.
The interactive event format encouraged engagement and exploration. Exhibitors offered hands-on experiences, including suturing, resuscitation, intubation, ultrasound, urinalysis and cervical screening.
Tristan Hedger, a second-year medical student living and studying in Darwin, attended the NT Medical Career Expo alongside his peers.
"We were all impressed by the simulation stations. Seeing consultants and retrieval doctors demonstrate advanced life support techniques, including how to intubate mid-air, made it very real," says Tristan, who is also President of the Flinders Medical Students' Society Northern Territory.
"Speaking directly with hospital consultants, remote clinicians and other leaders helped us understand the pathways available to us as future doctors. It's a rare chance to meet providers from across the NT in one room."

Around 160 local students, prevocational doctors, health service staff and stakeholders attended this year's expo in Darwin.
