Boat located; bodies recovered at Wollongong

An upturned boat and the bodies of three men have been recovered in a search near Wollongong.

Three men were on board a boat that left Bellambi boat ramp at 2pm yesterday (Saturday 3 July 2021).

Family members alerted police at 6am today (Sunday 4 July 2021), when the boat did not return as scheduled.

The men's utility and boat trailer were found in the boat ramp car park.

Officers from Wollongong Police District, Marine Area Command and PolAir, along with members of Surf Life Saving NSW and Marine Rescue volunteer crews from Port Kembla and Shellharbour, conducted a search for the men.

The upturned boat was located off Port Kembla and the bodies of three men have since been recovered. They are yet to be formally identified.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
