Eagle-eyed Police camera operators helped land three people in court after two separate incidents in Auckland overnight.
Just after 4am a security company alerted Police to a burglary in progress at a plant shop on Remuera Road.
"These people were seen on camera allegedly stealing the cash register," Senior Sergeant Tony Ngau Chun, Auckland East Area Response Manager says.
"While our units were on the way, a Police camera operator observed a suspicious vehicle parked near the scene."
The vehicle took off at speed with no headlights on.
"The vehicle was monitored by the operator as it drove towards Greenlane," Senior Sergeant Ngau Chun says.
"The alleged offenders dumped the vehicle a short time later and they were taken into custody without incident."
A search of the vehicle uncovered items belonging to the plant shop, gift cards and various drug paraphernalia.
A 39-year-old man will appear in the Auckland District Court today charged with burglary, possessing methamphetamine, possessing utensils for methamphetamine, possessing instruments for burglary, and other driving related charges.
A 35-year-old man will appear in the Auckland District Court on 30 July charged with burglary and possessing utensils for methamphetamine.
It was the second success of the night. Earlier, at around 11.20pm, a stolen vehicle was detected travelling in Mt Eden.
The vehicle had been reported stolen during a burglary in Epsom on 17 July.
A Police camera operator picked up the vehicle entering the Southern Motorway, before exiting at Greenlane.
"Eagle followed the vehicle as it drove towards Ellerslie where it was successfully spiked on Abbots Way," Senior Sergeant Ngau Chun says.
"The vehicle came to a stop on Lunn Ave, where the sole occupant was taken into custody without issue."
A 25-year-old woman will appear in the Auckland District Court today charged with receiving property, possessing instruments for burglary, possessing an offensive weapon and possessing utensils for drug use.
Senior Sergeant Ngau Chun is pleased with the combined efforts of staff to hold the three alleged offenders to account.
"With the help of camera operators these people were apprehended and will now have to explain their actions in court.
"Police continue to send the message that this type of brazen offending will not be tolerated."
