National Science Week is back for 2026, celebrating the important role that science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) plays in our everyday lives.
Running until 23 August, Minister for Innovation, Science and the Digital Economy, Felix Ellis encouraged all Tasmanians to get involved, with events for all ages and interests being held throughout the State.
"Science is something we can all find a connection with, and with over 100 Science Week events happening across the State this August, there's something for everyone," Minister Ellis said.
"In the North West, we have a galaxy of events happening at Hive in Ulverstone, exploring ecosystems, stargazing and science pub quizzes.
"Science Made Beerable will return for another lesson in chemistry and microbiology in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie."
Alongside the festivities, Tasmania's leading STEM professionals are encouraged to get their applications in for the 2026 Tasmanian STEM Excellence Awards.
The awards recognise the outstanding achievments of our best STEM teachers, scientists, researchers, innovators and communicators, and highlight the importance of innovation in growing Tasmania's community and economy.
"With a total prize pool of $35,000 across six award categories, we want all Tasmanians in, or close to, the STEM sector to get in contact with the high achievers they know and encourage them to submit their applications," Minister Ellis said.
"Science, technology, engineering and mathematics are disciplines that not only underpin and enhance our daily life, they drive innovation and productivity in our economy.
"As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, our Advanced Technology Strategy is setting the direction for the acceleration of technology adoption, innovation and capability across Tasmania's economy."
