Residents are asked to watch out for road closures and smoke during a hazard reduction burn planned for south of MacMasters Beach in Bouddi National Park on Wednesday 7 December, weather permitting.
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Director Hunter Central Coast Kylie Yeend said the 7.3-hectare controlled burn will reduce naturally accumulated fuel loads in the park.
'We are taking advantage of favourable weather conditions to conduct this burn with NPWS firefighters from the Central Coast area and NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) crews,' Ms Yeend said.
'The burn will help protect 13 properties along The Scenic Road, Bombi Road North and Bombi Road South, in case of a wildfire.'
Road closures in MacMasters Beach during the one-day burn include:
parts of The Scenic Road, with traffic controllers redirecting vehicles
Mount Bouddi Road
Bombi Road North and Bombi Road South, with residents only permitted.
'Anyone driving on smoke-affected roads should drive at a safe speed due to limited visibility, heed warning signs and follow any directions given by NPWS fire crews,' Ms Yeend said.
Depending on the wind, smoke may affect surrounding residential areas.
'If you are vulnerable to smoke, we encourage you to stay indoors and keep your doors and windows closed to reduce exposure.
'The burn will also reduce fuel loads around a telecommunication tower, with crews patrolling the fireground until it's safe to leave and declare the fire out.'
This burn is part of a coordinated hazard reduction program in Bouddi National Park, and will be the first in this part of the Park since 2009.
