City revs up for Targa West

The Make Smoking History Targa West car rally will take to the streets of Perth for its 18th year this week.

From 9 to 11 September, the festivities will take place across several sites in the City of Perth and greater metropolitan area.

City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said the City had supported Targa West since its inception 18 years ago.

"This celebration of motorsport attracts thousands of enthusiasts and visitors alike into the city every year," Mr Zempilas said.

"The people of Perth can enjoy rally sprints throughout the city and soak up the electric atmosphere.

"This is yet another example of the City sponsoring unique events that add activity and excitement to our City of Light, attracting visitors from near and far," he said.

The City welcomes motor fans to glimpse a wide range of competing cars at a Show 'n' Shine in Forrest Place and Murray Street Mall on Friday 9 September. On a day which also happens to be World Electric Vehicle Day, fans will able to get up close and personal with rally and sprint cars, street machines and hot rods.

The rally sprint will be held in Langley Park and Terrace Road on Sunday 11 September from 10.00am.

Spectators will experience a display of classics from Mustangs, Ferraris and Porsches as well as a range of Electric Vehicles.

Road closures will be in effect along Riverside Drive, Governors Avenue and Terrace Road between Governors Avenue and CPP Concert Hall car park entry during the event. CPP Terrace Road car park will also be closed from midnight Saturday 10 September 2022 to midnight Sunday 11 September.

Motor fans are encouraged to make use of public transport or take advantage the 3 hour free parking at selected CPP carparks over the weekend.
