Clarification from Government required on livestock travel for Spirit of Tasmania

Tasmanian Labor

The government needs to provide urgent clarification about the status of livestock travelling on the Spirit of Tasmania.

Reports that bookings for horse transport across Bass Strait on the TT Line have been stopped, effective immediately, is incredibly concerning.

This will impact the racing and breeding industry but also junior competitors in pony club, recreational and amateur riders looking to compete in national competitions, as well as any person needing to transport a horse to or from the mainland.

It's understood the decision affects all livestock and will have immediate and huge impacts across the community.

The Spirit of Tasmania provides an excellent and vital service for our state and any change to the way it operates must be communicated clearly and widely and unfortunately that doesn't appear to have happened.
