Community feedback wanted on Esplanade Skate Park

Council is seeking the community's feedback as part of a review of the Cairns Esplanade Skate Park precinct.

The review will consider the skate park and surrounding infrastructure to determine if it is still fit for purpose, and what alterations may be needed to modernise the space.

Covering an area of 2,300 square metres, the Esplanade Skate Park precinct is the largest in Cairns, and when it was opened in 2007 was the biggest in Australia.

The design also received several awards, including:

  • 2008 National AILA (Australian Institute of Landscape Architects) Design Award
  • 2007 Victorian AILA President's Playground Award
  • 2007 CCAA (Cement Concrete & Aggregates Australia) Public Domain Award, Commendation

The consultants responsible for the original design, Convic Skateparks, have been engaged by Council to undertake the current review.

The community can provide feedback at the following events:

When: Thursday 27 July, from 2.30pm to 4pm

Where: Cairns Esplanade Skate Park, Esplanade, Cairns North

When: Thursday 27 July, from 5.30pm to 6.30pm
