  • Part of the Cook Government's strategy in creating a future ready workforce

The Cook Government is investing in Western Australia's future science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce through the launch of a new STEM Engagement Sponsorship.

Applications are now open for the program, which will provide up to $30,000 per project for organisations delivering activities that strengthen STEM participation, awareness, and capability across the State.

Supporting the State's mission update, Future state, future skills: Accelerating STEM skills for Western Australia, the program will:

  • support initiatives that showcase emerging STEM career opportunities;
  • strengthen connections between industry and education providers; and
  • help Western Australians engage with the rapidly evolving, technology-driven economy.

The program also aims to increase participation among groups underrepresented in STEM, including those in regional and remote areas, women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people living with disabilities, and individuals from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.

Applicants are encouraged to submit initiatives that promote diverse role models, provide inspiring engagement opportunities, and support the retention and progression of underrepresented groups in STEM education and employment.

The program also seeks to build STEM culture and literacy across the community - supporting initiatives that promote interest in science and technology, foster positive attitudes, and develop the foundational skills needed to harness new technologies effectively.

Eligible applicants include not-for-profits, membership organisations, and universities that are delivering informal STEM engagement activities or events before 30 April 2027.

Applications close on 10am AWST 28 April 2026, with submissions to be lodged online.
