Cooma prison seeks staff to help change offenders' lives

Cooma Correctional Centre is calling for people within Snowy Monaro community to bring their skills and experience to several vacant positions and help offenders to break the cycle of reoffending.

The centre has various positions available, including an education services coordinator, services and programs officers and correctional officers.

Assistant Commissioner Custodial Corrections Anne Marie Martin said corrections can be both challenging and rewarding.

"When people join Corrective Services NSW, they're committing to being a force of positive change in offender lives," Ms Martin said.

"Our staff are professional and committed to the work they do, so we're looking for likeminded men and women to further add to depth of skill and knowledge in our workforce.

"Delivering programs, education, practical skills and training to people in custody is critical to reducing the rate of reoffending and helping these people get their lives back on track.

"New recruits will undergo training to ensure they can safely and securely manage inmates while supporting their rehabilitation and maintaining a safe and respectful workplace environment."

Cooma Correctional Centre is a minimum and medium security facility for men.

Corrective Services NSW has this year launched its largest ever recruitment drive as it emerges from the pandemic with a commitment to fortifying its 10,000-strong workforce.

The extensive campaign will focus on employing 800 permanent correctional officers over the next six months.
