Council Calls For Input On Community Engagement Policy

Wyndham City Council is calling on the broader community to have its say on a Draft Community Engagement Policy that outlines how Council can best involve the community in its decision-making about local projects, services, plans and policies.

Wyndham City Mayor Adele Hegedich said the new draft policy demonstrates Council's commitment to community engagement.

"Community engagement is integral to Council achieving positive outcomes that reflect the needs of various communities," Cr Hegedich said.

"Transparent and well managed community engagement is essential as it enables people to have a say on matters that are important to them and enables active participation in decision making."

"The draft policy outlines how Council will engage the community in strategic planning and decision making, including the Wyndham 2040 Community Vision, the Council Plan and Budget."

"It also includes elements now required by the Local Government Act, including highlighting opportunities for deliberative engagement."

Cr Hegedich said through the policy, Council wants to ensure that community engagement is genuine, transparent and appropriate.

"Wyndham City continues to remain committed to working with community; we value all feedback and encourage two-way communication with our residents and ratepayers," Cr Hegedich said.

"The Draft Community Engagement Policy has been developed using feedback from community members who provided feedback on how they would like Council to engage with them."

"Now, we're asking you to head to The Loop to view and provide feedback on the Draft Community Engagement Policy to ensure it aligns with your needs."
