DG Condemns Killing of Cameroon Radio Journo

Audrey Azoulay, the Director-General of UNECO, has called for an investigation into the killing of radio journalist Martinez Zogo, whose body was found on 21 January in Ebogo, on the outskirts of Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon.
I condemn the killing of Martinez Zogo. I welcome the government's announcement that it is investigating this case, and I call on the authorities not to let this crime go unpunished. Journalists play an essential part in nurturing and upholding democratic governance. They deserve every necessary protection.
Audrey Azoulay UNESCO Director-General

Zogo, who directed the privately-owned Radio Amplitude, was the host of Embouteillage, a programme on public affairs. He is reported to have been kidnapped on 17 January, four days before his body was found.

UNESCO promotes the safety of journalists through global awareness-raising, capacity building and by coordinating the implementation of the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.
