Explore one of the world's oldest and most enduring printmaking techniques at this hands-on woodblock printing workshop.
This beginner-friendly session will introduce you to the fundamentals of woodblock printing, from carving a design into a wooden block to hand-printing a small edition of original artworks.
Whether you're completely new to printmaking or looking to try a new creative skill, this workshop offers a fun and supportive environment to experiment, create and take home your own unique artwork.
What you'll learn
During the workshop, you'll:
Be guided through the woodblock printing process step by step.
Learn how to carve and prepare a wooden block for printing.
Create your own custom, reusable woodblock.
Handprint a small edition of your design to take home.
Participants are encouraged to bring reference photos, sketches or ideas they'd like to transform into a print.
Meet the instructor
Emilie (she/her) is an artist and educator based between Melbourne and Marseille, France, whose practice spans multiple artistic disciplines with a strong focus on community-based art and education.
She completed a PhD in Fine Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2020 and has undertaken artist residencies with Testing Grounds, Making Space and the Comic Art Workshop.
Emilie has exhibited work across Melbourne, including at FortyFive Downstairs, Abbotsford Convent, No Vacancy Gallery, Arcade and George Paton Gallery.
Her workshops are known for their welcoming, hands-on approach, making creative techniques accessible to artists and beginners alike.
This workshop is suitable for ages 18+ and is delivered in partnership with Laneway Learning for arts lovers and creatives in Monash.
