Gallery unveils 2019 exhibition program

Caloundra Regional Gallery announced its 2019 exhibition program today, a program that will showcase experiential art, sculpture, photo media and installation by leading local and Australian artists.

The exhibitions will allow visitors to immerse themselves in works by artists including Ross Manning (Dissonant Rhythms), Margaret Ellen Turner (Painting Space), Bianca Beetson (Being Human) and Elizabeth Willing, food artist.

In addition, the gallery will present The Kyoto Hanga International Print Exhibition: Japan and Australia, in partnership with the Print Council of Australia and Kyota Hanga, Japan. The exhibition will involve 40 Japanese artists and 25 Australian artists including six local Sunshine Coast artists.

The signature Sunshine Coast Art Prize exhibition will again be a highlight between July 25 and September 15.

Arts Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said the 2019 program would both intrigue and inspire locals and visitors to the region.

"The gallery team has put together a more conceptual, outward looking program of exhibitions," Cr Baberowski said.

"The program has a considered overall balance with a particular focus on connecting international, Australian and local Sunshine Coast artists."

Caloundra Regional Gallery curator Hamish Sawyer said the exhibition program brought together a diverse offering of exhibitions.

"The 2019 program brings the diversity of contemporary visual arts practice to the Sunshine Coast," Mr Sawyer said.

"At the gallery in 2019, visitors can immerse themselves in today's art, create open debate and discover ground-breaking works, creating an opportunity for thoughtful reflection."

The exhibition program is enhanced by the gallery's wide range of public programs and events for people of all ages and abilities – from Kids Art Attack and Toddler Wednesdays, to artist talks, workshops, Friday3Live events and the Mindful Art program for people living with dementia.
