Good progress in Horseshoe Bay car park upgrade

Kempsey Shire Council

South West Rocks residents have been watching the Horseshoe Bay car park upgrade works with great interest.

This project has been underway since August and is a major upgrade to the headland car park, bringing a host of new benefits to the area.

This project is much more than just resealing the original car park: it has been designed to provide a safe, accessible, sustainable and attractive place to park, walk, and view our beautiful Horseshoe Bay.

The car park has been re-designed to improve traffic flow and safety, adding nine new parking spaces, a seating area and footpath which comply with disabled access standards, and structures such as pits, kerbs, gutters and swales to manage stormwater runoff.

The area is being landscaped with a sandstone retaining wall, seating, and a generous amount of coastal grasses and shrubbery planted to help protect and beautify the area.

The project has been progressing well, although it is due to be completed a little later than expected due to losing some skilled concrete workers earlier in the project timeline.

The project leads expect the project to be completed in full by 20 October. Unfortunately, this does mean that the car park will not be open for the October school holidays as we had hoped. '

We believe it will be worth the wait!
