HKU Sports Scholar Cheung Loi Chit wins a silver medal in the Nangun category of the Wushu competition

Sports Scholars of the Univeristy of Hong Kong (HKU) championed at the 2023 World University Games held in Chengdu, China, with HKU Sports Scholar Coleman Wong Chak Lam winning a bronze medal with partner Wong Hong yi Cody in Mixed Doubles Tennis yesterday (August 5). Ryan Choi Chun Yin won a bronze in the Men's Individual Foil in Fencing on August 4, soon after his bronze medal won with team members at the FIE Fencing World Championships in Italy. Cheung Loi Chit, another HKU Sports Scholar, took silver in the Nangun category of the Wushu competition earlier.

Cheung Loi Chit,  a 2019 HKU Sports Scholar studying Biomedical Engineering, also made history for the Univeristy by becoming the first-ever HKU representative athlete to capture a medal at any World University Games, taking home the silver medal on July 30 .  

"We are thrilled to see Cheung Loi Chit's remarkable achievement at the World University Games," said CSE Director Dr. Michael Tse. "His success is a reflection and demonstration to all that hard work and determination can lead to success in both academic and athletic pursuits. We are confident that Cheung's accomplishment will inspire other HKU students to strive for excellence in all aspects of their lives and demonstrate the spirit of Hong Kong and HKU."  Dr. Tse added.

HKU is being represented by 13 athletes at the 2023 World University Games, which will end on August 8. Other student athletes include Saloni Mehta, Ko Shing Hei (badminton), Cheung Siu Hang (athletics), Leung Yi Hang, Lawrence Ng Lok Wang, Linna Fan, Chan Tsz Ching, Wong Chun Hin (fencing), Charlene Chu Wing Yan (taekwondo), and Wong Chun Hei (artistic gymnastics).
