Liberals continue to let cost of living hurt Tasmanians

Tasmanian Labor

Jeremy Rockliff's failure to act on increasing cost of living pressures is hurting working Tasmanians.

Today's ABS Selected Living Cost Indexes data shows that Tasmanian workers have experienced the biggest increase in living costs in 20 years - up 9.3 per cent since the same time last year.

Coupled with last week's Consumer Price Index data, the economic picture for Tasmania is getting bleaker.

Tasmania is in the grips of a cost of living crisis, meanwhile the Liberal Government still refuses to prioritise health, housing, power prices and education over building a stadium in Hobart.

Tasmanian workers are the poorest paid in the country.

The Liberals' inaction on cost of living further confirms that they clearly have their priorities wrong.

The Liberal Government twice voted down Labor's legislation in Parliament last year to cap power price increases at 2.5 per cent, which would have provided Tasmanians with relief from soaring power costs.

Tasmanians are struggling to deal with the cost of living crisis brought about by the Liberals' mismanagement of the economy and Jeremy Rockliff's focus on the wrong priorities.

Instead of obsessing over a billion-dollar stadium in Hobart, which will rack up more debt and bleed more money from the state's budget, Jeremy Rockliff needs to start focusing on measures to fix the priority issues faced by Tasmanians.
