Major Collision Unit investigate South Morang fatality

Police and emergency services responded to reports of a single vehicle fatal crash in South Morang this morning.

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit believe the silver sedan was travelling north on Plenty Road when the driver allegedly lost control and crashed into a pole about 1.10am.

A male passenger in the vehicle, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

The driver, an 18-year-old man from Eltham, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

An 18-year-old Mernda man who was also in the vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined and the investigation is ongoing.
