Man in court on 31 firearms, domestic violence charges - Illawarra region

A man will face court on more than 30 charges after firearms were seized by police responding to a domestic incident in the Illawarra region early this morning.

About 2.15am (Saturday 30 May 2020), officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attended a home on Koona Street, Albion Park Rail, following reports of a domestic-violence incident.

Upon arrival, the occupant – a 40-year-old man – allegedly became aggressive, before verbally abusing and threatening a male senior constable at the front door.

It will be further alleged the man assaulted a 40-year-old woman, who was known to him, in front of police.

He was arrested inside the home, where police seized several firearms, an electronic stun device, knife and firearm magazines.

The man was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with 31 offences including common assault (DV), intimidate police officer in execution of duty, possess unauthorised pistol (x10), possess unauthorised prohibited firearm (x16), possess ammunition without holding licence/permit, and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit (x2).

He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Bail Court tomorrow (Sunday 31 May 2020).
