MEAA concerned by rise of online abuse and disinformation

The Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance is concerned at the rise in online abuse and disinformation on the social media platform Twitter.

Many of our members – journalists, writers, actors, entertainers, musicians and more – rely on social media for their work. It is a workplace for them.

It is imperative that changes in the platform's ownership not result in Twitter embracing those who engage in hate speech and who spread lies and falsehoods.

We ask that Twitter and Twitter Australia do everything possible to ensure online safety for users, that abusive and dangerous accounts are shutdown swiftly, and that the service maintains robust checks to fight off disinformation for consumers.
