Michael Clancy has been awarded an International Bar Association (IBA) Honorary Life Membership for his continued dedication to the organisation. Starting as a Council Member on the Legal Practice Division in 2005, Mr Clancy has held numerous senior roles within the IBA, including as Chair of the Professional Conduct Committee from 2007 to 2008 and Chair of the IBA Constitution and Governance Committee for seven years (2017-2024). Presently, he is acting as an Advisor for the IBA Constitution and Governance Committee as well as the IBA Credentials Committee .

Outside the IBA, Mr Clancy is Director of Law Reform at the Law Society of Scotland and has written on a range of legal topics. He also serves as Secretary of the United Kingdom and Ireland Notarial Forum. In 2022, Clancy was awarded an OBE in the Queen's Jubilee Birthday Honours List and in 2024 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
The IBA Honorary Life Membership is awarded to those who have made an outstanding and unique contribution to the work of the IBA. Honorary Life Members permanently sit on the IBA Council.
