Queensland's veterans and their families are a step closer to expanded wellbeing support, with a topping-out ceremony marking the roof going on at Legacy House Brisbane in Greenslopes.
The Crisafulli Government is providing $3 million towards the construction, supporting delivery of a new, accessible location for coordinated services and support for veterans and their families.
It's just one of the ways the Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland's future and delivering a fresh start for veterans across the State.
Run by Legacy, the multipurpose precinct will offer family-centred care and referral services, including clinical support, social connection, and health and wellbeing services.
The precinct will also support services provided by other ex-service organisations including RSL Queensland, Mates4Mates, Open Arms, and the Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation.
Queensland is home to the largest population of veterans in Australia with more than 163,000 veterans.
The Crisafulli Government is supporting veterans and their families through the new $6 million Honouring our Veterans grants program delivering support to ex-service and community organisations.
Earlier this month, the first recipients were announced, with 33 organisations receiving a total of $1.5 million in funding.
Consultation has also been underway to develop the first Queensland Veterans and Veterans' Families Strategy.
Premier and Minister for Veterans David Crisafulli said the Government was delivering a fresh start for veterans and their families right across the State.
"We're proud to fund this project, and it's great to see construction reach this milestone so veterans and their families have another support option closer to home," Premier Crisafulli said.
"Legacy House Brisbane will strengthen support for veterans and their families, as we continue giving back and honouring the heroes who served our country."
Assistant Minister for Community Safety, Defence Industry, Veterans and North Queensland Janelle Poole said the ceremony was timely.
"On Saturday, we will pause to commemorate Anzac Day and remember the veterans who served in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping missions, and who continue to serve," Ms Poole said.
"The Crisafulli Government will continue delivering for our veterans through investments such as this and ensure we find more ways to give back and say thank you."
