More money in pockets of residents in Quiet Lakes

Liberal Party Victoria

A Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will save households in Quiet Lakes $135 a year by covering the costs to flush the lakes with bore water.

The commitment will remove the controversial bore flushing tariff applied by Melbourne Water since 2017.

Under the Andrews Labor Government, residents around Lake Legana and Lake Illawong are forced to pay $135 per household to run a bore to reduce algae in the lake.

A Liberals and Nationals Government will also ensure that Melbourne Water investigates the water quality to ascertain the best way to improve the quality for the local community.

Liberal Candidate for Carrum, Bec Buchanan said the Andrews Labor Government has ignored the concerns of local residents.

"I've listened to local residents about this important issue and despite the flushing of bore water, the water quality remains average."

"Only a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will remove this charge."

Shadow Minister for Water, Danny O'Brien, said the Quiet Lakes play an important role in drainage and flood mitigation to protect the region from flooding.

"The Liberals and Nationals are committed to removing this charge on local residents by requiring Melbourne Water to cover the costs of running the bore to maintain water quality in the lakes."
