On behalf of the United States of America, I extend my warmest greetings to His Majesty King Mohammed VI and to the people of Morocco on the anniversary of His Majesty's ascension to the throne.
For nearly 250 years, the United States and Morocco have shared the longest friendship in American history. This is a strong and enduring partnership built on shared values and a common commitment to peace, security, and prosperity.
Under President Trump's leadership, the United States has been unequivocal: we recognize Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara and support Morocco's serious, credible, and realistic Autonomy Proposal as the only basis for a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable solution. Any other path prolongs the status quo and is unacceptable. Genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty provides this region and the continent with the chance to finally move forward after 50 years. This dispute must end now, and the United States will continue to push toward that goal. American diplomacy remains focused on a mutually beneficial solution for all who call this region home.
Under His Majesty's leadership, Morocco has been an anchor of regional stability and security, including through its vital role in the Abraham Accords. The United States deeply values this partnership and looks forward to strengthening our work together to secure the Sahel. Your vision for economic growth will create new prosperity for both our peoples, and President Trump has directed his administration to encourage economic and social development with Morocco, including in the Western Sahara territory. As we look toward the next 250 years of friendship, the United States will remain your trusted partner in energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense.
Together, we will continue to advance peace, regional stability, and economic growth that benefits both our peoples.
