New boardwalk and pathway for Division 10 to inspire healthy community

Nambour residents will be able to put their best foot forward with daily exercise after Sunshine Coast Council this week unveiled a new boardwalk and pathway for the area bordering Ferntree Creek National Park.

Division 10 Councillor David Law said the final stage of the more than $300,000 project was nearing completion.

"We are pleased to deliver a terrific new boardwalk alongside Zealey Road, plus a 1.8 metre-wide concrete pathway through to National Park Road," Cr Law said.

"This is a safe off-road pathway for both pedestrians and cyclists that everyone, both young and old, in the area will be able to make the most of.

"It was good to talk with Gwen, who was the first resident at Sanctuary Park Retirement Village, about the benefits that will be gained from having this new pathway and boardwalk. Russel, the village manager, also explained how grateful the local community was for these improvements in regards to accessibility and safety.

"Providing dedicated infrastructure separated from cars will encourage residents to get out and use active transport options for their daily commute and contributes to achieving our vision of being Australia's most sustainable region, healthy, smart, creative."

The project was funded through council's $320 million 2019/2020 Capital Works Program and took six weeks to complete.
