  • Working café, commercial kitchen part of new school facilities
  • Part of a key election commitment to deliver $10 million in major upgrades
  • More than 1,000 students will benefit from the new learning spaces
  • Premier Mark McGowan and Forrestfield MLA Stephen Price met students at Darling Range Sports College today during a tour of the school’s new food technology and materials technology buildings.

The materials technology building was completed in September and is the latest project to come to fruition at the school as part of major upgrades totalling $10 million.

With a commercial kitchen and working café, the food technology building is a key space for students to hone their skills and become job-ready.

The final stage of the McGowan Government’s major upgrades to Darling Range Sports College will deliver a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) area, scheduled for completion in January 2021.

These new facilities will allow the school to expand the specialist programs available to more than 1,000 students at Darling Range Sports College, and help them reach their potential in science, technology and vocational courses.

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

“I’m pleased to see this major $10 million election commitment taking shape at Darling Range Sports College, where we have delivered significant upgrades.

“The new, state-of-the-art facilities will enhance the learning experience for students, with a focus on creating an environment that will help prepare them to enter the workforce.

“Investing in schools across Perth’s outer suburbs is an important priority for this Government.

“As part of the WA Recovery Plan, my Government is investing an unprecedented $492.2 million in school infrastructure across the State, which is supporting WA’s economic recovery and delivering fantastic learning facilities.”

As stated by Forrestfield MLA Stephen Price:

“Darling Range Sports College has been providing outstanding educational opportunities to local students for decades.

“Like any older school, it’s important that we continue to upgrade and modernise the facilities to ensure students continue to enjoy a high-quality learning environment, which is why we have delivered on this major $10 million commitment.

“Teachers are already using these new facilities to prepare students doing science, technology and vocational courses to pursue whatever career they choose, whether it be further studies at university or straight into the workforce.”
