New Highfields aged care community on horizon

Construction of a new 96-bed Carinity aged care building in Highfields is getting closer to completion.

Roofing on the building is being finished, to be followed by the installation of more than 1,350 solar panels, fit-out of the interior and external landscaping works.

Work on the Carinity aged care community on Highfields Road, adjacent to the existing Brownesholme retirement village, is expected to be completed in March 2021.

The seniors’ community is operated by Carinity, a Queensland not-for-profit which also offers home care services around the Toowoomba region.

Paynters is building the new aged care site. It is the Brisbane-based company’s fourth major collaboration with Carinity in five years following construction of aged care sites in Townsville, Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Paynters currently has 70 local sub-contractors working at the Highfields site as part of stage one of a $67 million expansion of the seniors’ community.

Is it part of Carinity’s vision for integrated services for seniors through the co-location of retirement villages and residential aged care and access to in-home care.

“Carinity is committed to seniors’ communities that offer adaptive living, giving the peace of mind of knowing you won’t need to leave the community you’ve come to know and love should you need additional support and care,” Carinity Aged Care Regional Manager Kathy Nicholls says.

“When it is time for the additional support of aged care living, residents don’t have to move away from established relationships and can maintain their close networks.

“Having retirement villages and residential aged care communities co-located also enables couples to remain connected if one partner requires a higher level of care.”

It is anticipated that more than 90 local staff will work at the new aged care community which is scheduled to open mid-2021.
