New leader for Queensland Exploration Council in 2019

The Queensland Resources Council (QRC) together with its explorer-focused membership body the Queensland Exploration Council (QEC) has welcomed a new Chair for the QEC, Kim Wainwright.

QRC Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane said the incoming Chair was a great fit for the role and looked forward to having an inspiring female industry champion in the position.

"Kim holds a number of directorships in Australia, as well as being the Managing Director and CEO of Xplore Resources. Kim has always been a committed leader in the exploration industry which was reflected when highly commended in the Resources Awards for Women Exceptional Woman in Exploration category earlier this year," Mr Macfarlane said.

"I have no doubt Kim will be an asset to the QEC and grow the work of outgoing Chair Brad John PSM. I would like to thank Brad for his dedication over the past two years to improving the QEC which, with thanks to Brad, has experienced a strategic refocus and increased membership by more than 10 percent."

Over the past 24 months the state's exploration industry has benefited from continued investment which was clearly evident in the latest edition of the QEC Exploration Scorecard.

"The Scorecard showed the highest level of positive sentiment in the industry since the Scorecard began in 2011. For the first time in the Scorecard's history, explorers were positive about their access to investment capital and sentiment towards policy uncertainty also greatly improved," Mr Macfarlane said.

Ms Wainwright said she was looking forward to engaging with all levels of industry in Queensland to further build on our world class approach to exploration and mining.

"The amount of talent in our exploration sector from a services, technology and discovery perspective is impressive. I'm committed to promoting and supporting Queensland's exploration community," she said.

The Queensland Exploration Council is the go-to member organisation in Queensland for brining exploration and opportunity together.
