Box Hill residents are a step closer to enjoying a new neighbourhood park, with The Hills Shire Council appointing a contractor to deliver Stockhorse Avenue Reserve.

The new 5,126m2 reserve will include a playground, multipurpose court, space for active and passive recreation, a drinking fountain, shelter, seating, a pathway network through and around the park, gardens and tree planting.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne, said the $1.3 million project is a step forward in the delivery of much-needed infrastructure for the growing Box Hill community.

"Box Hill will eventually be home to 49,000 residents, and projects like this are essential to ensure people have access to spaces where they can stay active, connect with others and enjoy a healthy lifestyle close to home," Mayor Byrne said.

"Stockhorse Avenue Reserve will become a treasured community gem and a space for young people to have fun and play sport.

"The community was very clear about what they wanted to see in this park.

"Residents asked for a multi-purpose court to support sports like basketball and for shaded spaces where people can gather and relax. By delivering these features, we're creating a space that is comfortable, functional and able to be enjoyed throughout the year."

Mayor Byrne said Council will continue to advocate to all levels of Government to increase infrastructure spending in Box Hill.

"The State and Federal Governments need to address the $207 million infrastructure shortfall Box Hill is facing, but in the meantime, we're moving forward with the projects we can, like this one and The Water Lane Reserve which is set to open at the end of this year."

The tender for Stockhorse Avenue Reserve was appointed following community consultation, which received more than 150 responses.

Construction of Stockhorse Avenue Reserve is expected to commence in late 2026.
